So, I met Gord Downie a few nights back - at the Leafs Game vs. Boston (his uncle or godfather - not sure - Harry Sinden runs the show down there in Bean-Town) - anyhoo, ran into him whilst volunteering and selling 50/50 tix for LeafsFund charities.
Gord's great - very humble, very personable. I like Gord. Better yet, I like his music - he's in this little band, perhaps you've heard of them -The Tragically Hip.
They've got a new boxed set out - boxed sets usually signal one of two things lately in the music world - a) you've had a great run and want to compile the best of your best, throw them into some fancy-pants package, easily accessible to your fan-base and cash in on pushing out an "album" without actually having to have done some work...or...b) you put out like, one good album in your career, threw in some stuff that was recorded by accident - you know, maybe we hear the drummer fart on the count-in, or y'know somebody sneezes in the background.
Then there's this - Hipeponymous - as they call it. You've got some good stuff here - two new songs, all the goodies from the cookie jar, some artwork (shit they're into weird stuff), a DVD with a collection of their music videos and to top it off - a live disc concert. Beat that Counting Crows/Britney Spears best-of-bullshit!
Done.
EM.
