Super Bowl XL came and went and so too did the barrage of commercialism that is attached with it. So, I watched this event but not so much for the game itself (b/c who cares, I'm a CANADIAN AND I LIKE HOCKEY!) however, for the lavish entertainment spectacle (c'mon wardrobe malfunction!!!!!).
The Stones, Rolling Stones did the half time show - and might I say their stage was a true marvel - beautiful concept of encompassing a select number of fans with a wrap-around catwalk, all in the shape of their logo (the famed open mouth, complete with tongue sticking out) - I think another band used that technique, can't think of their names right now but I'm sure it'll come to me or U2 - let me know if U2 can (or cannot) think of their name.
Aretha Franklin and Aaron Neville sang the Star Spangled Banner - and may I just say right here, right now that if you watched SNL this past Saturday - Horatio Sanz' impression of 'ol molehead was superbowl bang on!!! Hilarious - JoJo n' I couldn't stop laughing when we saw the real deal...mahvelous!
And then, last but not least, one of the last few blind marvels of music, Sir Stevie Wonder went through a lovely medley of all his greatest hits (some of the stuff I admit, I didn't even know were his). Gotta say though it was a tad weak - blind guy, tremendously talented, joined onstage by some of the weakest performers ever - and I mean, who the hell were some of those "artists" anyways? Ten bucks says that they had to buy a ticket (at scalped prices - $5000 ea. anyone???) just to get in!!
Oh well...Steelers won, whoopididoo!! At least someone in Pittsburgh is winning these days (ya I'm talkin' to you Sidney).
As for ticket prices and commercial airing rates - holy crap do Americans have money to burn and brain cells to go with 'em! Who the fudge would seriously pay $2,500,000 for 30 seconds to advertise the new and improved Viagra - now with 100% real prune juice, not from concentrate?????
Moreover, the commercials, as funny as I hope they'll be - we don't even get to watch in CANADA - thanks a lot CRTC you @#$%@#$%@$%!!#$%!!!@@#$@!!!!! (y'know they won't let me actually say what I want to say - yay to Canada's version of the FCC - FREE HOWARD STERN!)
